Phil Sweeney
is studying for a Masters Degree in
Anthropology at Portland State University in the United States, and
he
is interested in doing research for him thesis in southern Taiwan. He
is
applying for a Fulbright grant, and he would like to ask for advice
about possible sponsors at National Sun Yat-Sen Univeristy. In order to
qualify for the grant he needs
to find someone who is affiliated with a university or research
institute to write a short letter to the Fulbright foundation on my
behalf. Due to the nature of the subject matter that he would like to
research, he believes
that Kaohsiung would be an ideal location for doing research; therefore,
he has
decided to contact your research center. He is attaching
the
resume as well as a brief statement regarding my research plans. Dr.
Sharon Carstens at PSU will be advising
him
on
his
project. If you could read the attachments and then contact
him
if you can think of any potential sponsors that he should contact, he
would be very thankful for your assistance. |

| Applications of Visiting Scholars-National Sun Yat-sen University Taiwan
|
| Center for Humanities and Social Sciences at National Sun Yat-sen University welcomes applications to its Visiting Scholars Program. The center hosts 2 short-term (one-month) visiting scholars per year. The obligation includes short-term lecture series, joint publication or research consulting for the colleagues at National Sun Yat-sen University. Round trip flights will be covered by the center and the stipend or per diem for one month ranges from 75,000NT to 150,000NT; the actual per diem would be decided by committee of Office of Research Affairs. Senior professors or internationally renowned research scholars are encouraged to apply. |

| 3. One Letter of recommendation |
